Akon’s “Freedom” got swiped by Britney Spears’ “Circus” on this week’s chart. According to Nielsen Soundscan, the “Right Now (Na Na Na)” star’s new album “Freedom” moved 111,000 copies in it’s first week. The Konvicted star’s last album aptly titled “Konvicted” debuted at no.2 in 2006 with 284,000 copies moved. It has since been certified double-platinum. Today Akon sits at no.7 on the Billboard 200. Rising up the chart, Beyonce’s “I Am…Sasha Fierce” moved another 153,000 copies this week, placing at it no. 3 followed by Kanye West’s “808s & Heartbreak,” which moved 142,000 copies, at no. 4. Topping two charts this week, Britney Spears’ single and album “Circus” sit at no.1. According to Billboard, Spears’ new album moved 505, 000 copies, becoming the star’s fifth no.1 and a historic move as Spears’ is now the only act to have four albums debut with 500,000 copies or more in Nielsen SoundScan history. Aside from Spears, 50 Cent, 2Pac, Garth Brooks and Jay-Z have been the only artists to have landed three 500k or more debuts.
