This week’s performance at VH1’s Hip Hop Honors turns out to be just the beginning for one of Hip Hop’s veteran groups — Naughty By Nature. “We’ve been talking about reuniting for about two years, then about three months ago we decided to go ahead” says Kier “DJ Kay Gee” Gist of a new album slated for release early 2009. Tentatively titled “Anthem Inc.,” ‘Vinnie and Treach, who round out the group, say fans can expect an album full of universal party tracks, street anthems, and anthems for the ladies. “..We’re not 19-20 anymore, so things will be a little different lyrically. We don’t’ want to make a record that sounds like we’re just trying to chase 15-year-olds.” Despite having time away as a group, Treach says the chemistry is still there. “It’s like getting into a time machine going from the past to the future.” “Vinnie and I have been touring. Both Kay Gee and I have been working on outside projects. So we didn’t miss a beat when all three of us got back in the studio. This project is coming out ridiculous with street anthems, social and political anthems and some for the ladies.” “Anthem Inc.” is slated for release independently early 2009 reports Billboard. Naughty By Nature scored its first crossover hit in 1991 with “O.P.P. (Other People’s Property)” which was followed by the 1993 hit “Hip Hop Hooray.”
