Taking the independent route has worked out for R&B singer Joe whose album “Joe Thomas, New Man” lands at no.1 on Billboard’s Top Independent Albums chart this week. The soulful crooner made a splash with his 7th and 1st independent album, “Joe Thomas, New Man” which also entered the Top 10 on Billboard’s 200 at no.8. With sales in excess of 54,000 copies Joe also debuted at no.3 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop albums chart. Elsewhere on the charts, Jazmine Sullivan made a strong debut with “Fearless” landing at no. 6 on the Billboard 200 and no.1 on the R&B/Hip Hop albums chart. Led by the hit single “Need U Bad” Sullivan’s debut has been well received by fans and critics. While Jazmine tops the R&B charts, The Pussycat Dolls have clawed their way up the pop charts with “Doll Domination,” the group’s sophomore disc which moved 79,000 copies placing the album at no.4 on the Billboard 200. Next Week: With three strong albums debuting Tuesday there looks to be a battle brewing between T.I. and Jennifer Hudson. According to Hits Daily Double, T.I. is predicted to sell around 500,000 copies of his highly anticipated album Paper Trail while Hudson is expected to move 250,000 – 300,000 copies of her debut. Robin Thicke who also released an album this week is expected to debut with 150,000 copies sold.
