Looking back at the Grammy’s, that in many eyes launched her comeback, Tina Turner says she was surprised by the reaction from fans and the ‘Queen of Soul’ Aretha Franklin. “It was meant to be. I was surprised by the reaction because, to be honest, I wasn’t quite ready.” says the iconic performer. There was however one reaction that she says was somewhat surprising. “Aretha has always been like that. We’ve always accepted that from her” says Turner referring to the ‘Queen’s’ statement about being dismissed by Beyonce who called Turner a ‘Queen’ during an introductory tribute. “She’s the queen of soul and I’m the queen of rock n’ roll. Her ego must be so big to think she was the only one.” Regardless of who is the real ‘Queen,’ Turner has something more important to worry about — her highly anticipated tour. Kicking off Wednesday, Tina Turner’s North American Trek is slated to run through early December with stops in Chicago, Anaheim, Miami and Newark, NJ before heading overseas. Ready to take the stage Turner says “The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, the Eagles, we are the Mozarts of these times, we’re proving we can last. That’s the statement I am making.”
