R&B Trio Labelle has set a date for their reunion album. The group consisting of Patti Labelle, Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash, will release their first album in over 20 years September 23rd via Verve Records. As previously reported on Singersroom, Labelle has been in the studio with hitmakers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff as well as Lenny Kravitz. “I think all you gotta say is ‘we’re here.’ We’re like that caged bird. If you love it, you open the door and let it fly because you know it’s going to come back stronger. Well, we’re back, baby. Anyone that knows Labelle knows we don’t know how to hold anything backâ says Patti Labelle. In addition, the group will perform July 5 in New Orleans as part of the Essence Festival at the Louisiana Superdome. Although Labelle has performed live on numerous occasions since officially splitting up more than three decades ago, the group’s spokesperson says the Essence set is its first public concert since January 1977.
