Chaka Khan – â I Feel For Youâ Not one to stay in one lane or in a box, throughout her career Chaka Khan has recorded and performed funk, disco, jazz, R&B, hip hop, pop and blues. Khan reached a peak in 1984 when she recorded a cover of Princeâs 1979 song âI Feel For You.â Once released in 1984, the single stormed the charts becoming Khanâs biggest single to date. Although there were many versions of song, including the most popular featuring Stevie Wonder, the official record sold well over 1 million copies in the U.S. and in the United Kingdom where it became a #1 single on the UK charts. âI Feel For Youâ a spirited record featuring rapper Melle Mel, keyboard and guitar by The System and harmonica playing and sampling from Wonder peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 that year at the same time holding on to the top spot on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart where it remained for three consecutive weeks. Khanâs single became such a hit that she titled her solo effort âI Feel For You,â which after itâs release toward the end of 1984 went platinum. âI Feel For Youâ also earned Chaka Khan her fifth Grammy at the time, Khan has earned a total of 10 Grammy Awards since. Today: Chaka Khan is currently celebrating her 35th anniversary in the business this year with a World Tour slated to run through August.
