Vonzell Solomon, a 2005 season finalist of American Idol was detained Tuesday at Southwest Florida International Airport after she reportedly forgot to remove a handgun from her carry-on bag. According to Naples Daily News, Solomon, who has a Florida concealed weapons permit, had apparently forgotten to check the firearm which turned out to be loaded, which may earn the former American Idol Finalist and Fort Myers, Florida resident a misdemeanor charge for carrying a concealed weapon. Barbara-Anne Urrutia, a spokeswoman for the Port Authority Police said the fact that the singer had a weapons permit eased officersâ response. She said Solomon remained calm throughout the process. âShe was trying to be helpful and not causing any problems,â Urrutia said. Solomon, who finished third place in the 2005 season of American Idol is readying the release of her new album âBaby Vâ with a single due later this year. In related news the singer has signed on to participate in Idol Camp 2008, a performing arts summer camp for kids between the ages of 10 and 15 designed to foster passion and creativity in a fun-filled, non-competitive environment where campers create their own schedules by choosing from classes in singing, dancing, acting, song writing, audition and performance techniques. The camp runs from through August.
