R&B veteran singer Brian McKnight says music is great but in this day and age you have venture out and diversify your interests. The singer, radio âmorning showâ host and now host of BET Jâs Soul Sessions looks forward to conquering television next with a late night talk/variety show next year. Currently in talks to produce a late night talk/variety show for release next year the singer, whose last album TEN was released in 2006, has been making serious moves beyond music. McKnight has kept busy with a recent stint on Broadway in âChicago,â hosting the Brian McKnight morning show on L.A.âs 94.7 âThe Waveâ and now as host of BET Jâs Soul Sessions, a music video series which McKnight calls âan entry level into television and hosting.â McKnight, who celebrates his birthday Thursday, says that he always thought of himself as more of personality, but gravitated more toward music originally because it was first to come along. The singer has previously credited his brother Claude, a founding member of the group Take 6 for his move into music which landed him his first deal with Mercury Records at the age of 19. Although the artist has plans to take on television, he will continue to produce music. In a recent interview with Multichannel News, McKnight says âthe way people get music is what has changedâ when asked about the current state of the music industry and the accessibility of artists today versus 20 years ago. McKnight goes on to say âthe greatest and worst thing is accessibility, they did not get ahead of the fact that people would be able to download the music so easily.â Brian McKnight has sold over 16 million album worldwide since his self titled debut in 1992, the singerâs next album rumored to be titled âLife Has Changedâ is due later this year. In related news, Brian McKnight will headline the Antigua Music Festival June 13th – June 15th which also featuring performances from Keyshia Cole, Lionel Richie, Heather Headley and Musiq Soulchild. Later in the month the singer will also perform at Detroitâs River Days Festival June 20 – June 23rd.
