R&B singer Ne-Yo is giving back on this Motherâs Day by hosting a Motherâs Day brunch in Atlanta on Sunday (May 11). The âCloserâ singer will serenade some 50 single and foster mothers on their special day to raise awareness of the need for reform of the foster care system in the United States. Ne-Yo, who was raised by a single mother says âA lot of aggravation was inside me. Dad stuck around for a minute and decided it wasnât for him. But I credit my mom for being so positive, putting the pen in my hand.â The R&B star/songwriter is expected to perform, and licensed child care workers are expected to provide activities for children between the ages of 1 and 10 in rooms separate from the event. âThey need something special, so with the success Iâve been given, through the blessings I have, how could I not use it for good? This is a way to help people who deserve it â for both the mothers and the children,â he told The Associated Press. In other news, it looks like Ne-Yoâs third studio album âYear of the Gentlemenâ will be pushed back. Originally due for release in June it appears that an August 5th date is now being promoted. âCloserâ the first single from the album moved from #54 to #41 on this weeks Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart.
