Mya, who is set to make her Broadway debut next month as Velma Kelly in Chicago, has broken her left foot and will postpone her engagement in the show, producer Barry Weissler announced Tuesday. “In the theater industry, we are sometimes forced to deal with circumstances beyond our control,” Weissler said. “But speaking for the entire Chicago creative team, we all wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to experiencing her portrayal of Velma Kelly as soon as possible.” Mya was to have begun her nine-week engagement in the Kander and Ebb musical on May 12. No other details about what happened were available. “It’s something I always wanted to do; sing, dance, act and tell a story,” Mya previously commented to the Associated Press. “It’s probably the ultimate complete dream for me.” No word yet on who will replace Mya as Velma, Roxie Hart’s cohort in show-biz razzle-dazzle. The role currently is being played by Brenda Braxton.
