Spice Girl Melanie Brown has hit back at reports she left her baby daughter with her housekeeper so she could elope to Las Vegas to marry Stephen Belafonte, branding the claims “fictitious.” Cleaner Tonia Lamere, who worked at Brown’s Los Angeles mansion earlier this year (07), accused the pop star of abandoning her then-two-month-old tot Angel Iris and eight-year-old Phoenix Chi for several days so she could wed the film producer in Sin City in June (07). She told Star Magazine, “One evening of baby-sitting turned into four days! The child was sick, there was no nanny, and when Mel called, she never even asked about the baby.” But Brown – who is currently embroiled in a child support battle with actor Eddie Murphy after he was proved to be the father of Angel Iris – has dismissed the allegations and insists the former employee is just looking to make a quick profit. A representative for Brown tells the New York Daily News, “Melanie is a hands-on mother completely dedicated to the upbringing of her children and the well-being of her entire family. Any fictitious accusations to the contrary stem from greedy people looking to make a buck.”
