Sexy. Stylish. Innovative. These are the three words that comes to mind when I think about BET’s third annual “Rip the Runway” at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Tuesday March 6, 2007. The show featured designs from 50 Cent’s G-Unit Brand, Nelly’s Apple Bottoms, Michael Jordan’s brand amongst many others. The show was hosted by R&B singers Chris Brown and Ciara and it boosted performances from Lloyd, Mims, Paul Wall and Jermaine Dupri, Rakim, and Rich Boy to name a few.
My night started off on the red carpet where I did almost two hours of press interviews. Yeah, Singersroom had me working. I have to say, Michael Jordan’s clothing line had all the male singers from Tyrese, Chris Brown, Musiq Soulchild to Rappers Rich Boy and Mims looking dapper. I’m not the one to comment on another man’s gear but I have to give credit where it’s deserved. Besides interviewing the above artists, I also chit chat a little with Bree from America’s Top Model, Terrence and Roxy from BET’s 106 & Park, radio personalities Tiger and Egypt, Hulk Hogan’s daughter Brooke Hogan, singer Lumidee, and a special designer from Florida name Lila, who represents Amaya Swimwear. Visit the Singersroom.com photo gallery to view some image shots of these interviews. Keep checking SingTV for the Video pieces.
Eventually, I got tired of doing press interviews so I went on to take in the rest of the show. Even though I’m not the one to just rock any designer brand, I love the designs that I was able to observe. I especially like the stuff from Nelly’s Apple Bottom line; the designs were exquisite and futuristic. The models themselves were also eye catching and bootilicious. Sorryâ¦I had to get that out the way. But it goes without saying that the designers benefited mucho from the confidence and sexual charisma of the models.
Overall, this was one of the nicer fashion shows I have attended so far in 2007, which makes sense given the amount of money flowing through these designers. For you folks that missed the show, you can watch it on BET Tuesday, March 14th at 10:00 p.m. Until next time remember, “style is personal.” —— By: Gary ‘Jus Music’ Gentles
