R&B veteran Alicia Keys will be the face of a new breast cancer awareness campaign by British fashion designer Stella Mccartney.
For the campaign, Mccartney created a limited edition lingerie set (underwear and bra) called the Ophelia Whistling style, with the proceeds going to two breast cancer screening centers in the U.S. and U.K.
Keys has always been a huge philanthropist, but she also signed on to front the campaign because it hits home; her mother Teresa Augello is a breast cancer survivor.
“I’ve never really shared this but My mother is a breast cancer survivor. Breast cancer affects us all, and that’s why I’m joining my sis @stellamccartney in starting a conversation and encouraging every woman to go get checked,” Keys wrote on Instagram. “I’m showing my support by wearing Stella’s beautiful Ophelia Whistling lingerie set.♀ A percentage of all proceeds are donated to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Breast Examination Center in Harlem. Head to my site to learn more about how to get involved.”
Founded in 1979, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Breast Examination Center features an outreach program and has screened more than 200,000 women for the disease, with experts also providing counseling and education services.
Stella’s lingerie set will be available from her boutiques and select department stores starting October 1 to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It will be priced from $90 to $160.
