R&B singer Chris brown is being charged with two felonies â assault and making criminal threats â in the alleged beating of his girlfriend Rihanna last month, the L.A. District Attorney’s office announced Thursday (Mar. 5). With these charges, Brown will face anywhere from probation to a maximum of four years and eight months in Jail if convicted, DA spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said. Brown is expected to enter a plea in court Today. He is required to appear in person. The 19-year-old R&B singer remains free on $50,000 bail. The formal charges come almost a month after the couple argued early the morning of Feb. 8, just hours the couple were both scheduled to perform at the Grammys. As Singersroom previously reported, a police investigation from the scene, which FOX 11 in L.A. claims it obtained, reportedly says Brown punched, bloodied and threatened to kill his girlfriend. Los Angeles police arrested Brown on Feb. 8 and booked him on suspicion of making criminal threats. Police said at the time a woman identified Brown as her attacker during an early morning dispute in an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood. Brown issued a statement a week after the incident saying that he was âsorry and saddenedâ about the incident. Rihanna also later issued a statement, saying she wouldnât comment on the alleged beating at the request of authorities. She thanked fans for their support. Brownâs arrest has been a dent in the âRun It!â singerâs squeaky-clean image, and compelled sponsors to drop him or not renew his deals. A photo of a bruised Rihanna taken shortly after the alleged assault leaked onto the Internet on Feb. 19. According to multiple reports, the pair have reconciled.
