Beyonce and Estelle are among several leading recording stars who have been nominated for 2009 Brit Awards. Nominated for Best International Female, Beyonce, who released “I Am..Sasha Fierce” in 2008, will go head to head with Katy Perry, Pink, Santogold and Cilmi. Estelle, who was nominated for a Mercury Prize last year, nabbed two nominations including Best British Female Solo Act and Best Single. While Beyonce and Estelle nabbed nominations, Coldplay and Duffy led the entire field with four nominations a piece. Coldplay’s four nods follow the group’s seven Grammy nominations in recognition of the multi-platinum selling album “Viva La Vida,” while Duffy’s nods are for her hit debut “RockFerry,” the UK’s best selling album of 2008. According to Billboard, both albums are nominated for best British album, competing against Elbow’s “The Seldom Seen Kid,” Radiohead’s “In Rainbows” and the Ting Tings’ “We Started Nothing.” Coldplay is also up for best British group (alongside Elbow, Girls Aloud, Radiohead and Take That), British single for “Viva La Vida” and British live act (up against Elbow, Iron Maiden, Scouting For Girls and the Verve). Duffy is nominated as British female solo act, competing with Adele, Beth Rowley, Estelle and M.I.A.; British breakthrough act, with Adele, Last Shadow Puppets, Scouting For Girls and the Ting Tings; and British single for “Mercy,” in a longlist of 10 that will be cut down to five by U.K. commercial radio listeners, with the winner selected by live vote on awards night. The Brit Awards will take place at Earls Court in London on Feb. 18. Kylie Minogue, James Corden, and Mathew Horne will co-present the show via ITV1.
