Katy Perry received the award for best international song during France’s NRJ awards in Cannes this week, but the honor was actually meant for Rihanna. According to published reports, Perry was given the award by mistake and host Nikos Aliagas later admitted the error and sent for Rihanna’s award. Rihanna actually won the international song award for Disturbia (SRP/Def Jam/Universal). Everything else went well, however, at the France’s NRJ Awards where Katy Perry won Best International Album (“One of the Boys”). Perry was accompanied by Coldplay, who won the NRJ Music Honors Award and Britney Separs, who won Best Video for “Womanizer”. Akon, Seal, Duffy and Coldplay’s Chris Martin performed at the show in Cannes. Other winners at the Jan. 17 ceremony included Enrique Iglesias for best international male and Britney Spears for international female. The Pussycat Dolls got best international band and the Jonas Brothers took home the international revelation award. French singer Christoper Maé collected two awards, for best French male artist and best French song for “Belle Demoiselle” (Warner Music France). Jenifer was named best French female artist. According to Billboard, the awards, now in their tenth year, are voted on by listeners of NRJ. The ceremony was staged during the opening weekend of the MIDEM international music market and conference.
