Haitian director/actor Jean-Claude LaMarre announced over an Instagram Live session that he’s planning to create a biopic about legendary hip-hop/soul trio The Fugees.
According to ThatGrapeJuice.net, LaMarre revealed he’s in the beginning stages of the project, but will first continue on the projects he already has in the works: Chocolate City 2 and Kinky which stars Vivica Fox, Dawn Richard, and Robert Ri’Chard.
The Fugees were comprised of members Lauryn Hill, Pras, and Wyclef Jean, and the trio ruled the mid-90s with their album The Score, which earned the two Grammy awards. Their hits include “Killing Me Softly,” “Ready Or Not,” and “Fu-Gee-La.” The Score ranked No. 18 on About.com’s 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums list, and went 6x platinum in the U.S, peaking at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 200 chart. The group eventually disbanded, as relationships between band members deteriorated. However, each member went on to have individual commercial success.
If this comes to pass, it should be dope! Who else would be excited about a Fugees biopic?
