Does Camila Cabello‬’s Exit From ‪Fifth Harmony Foreshadow The Group’s Demise?

The future of Fifth Harmony‬‬ is in limbo following Sunday’s announcement that member Camila Cabello has moved on.

In a message posted on social media and signed by remaining members Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane Hansen and Lauren Jauregui, they confirmed: “After four and a half years of being together, we have been informed via her representatives that Camila has decided to leave Fifth Harmony. We wish her well.”

Ally, Normani, Dinah and Lauren adds, “We are excited to announce that we will be moving forward with the four of us.” They also affirm that the future is bright, including solo albums from each remaining member.

The thing is….how many times have we seen situations like this unfold?

The last two popular groups that disbanded initiated in the same circumstance as Fifth Harmony, who was formed on the second season of the American version of The X Factor in 2012.

Both Danity Kane and Mindless Behavior had one member exit initially before the groups eventually fell apart or became obsolete. Danity Kane tried to keep the show going after D. Woods’ departure, but more drama unfolded prompting members Dawn Richard and Aundrea Fimbres to also leave. Mindless Behavior, who are still trying to make waves with three members, only one original (Princeton), fell from popularity after frontman Prodigy quit.

Fifth Harmony’s announcement seems to be a pattern for today’s groups, who usually drop one or two albums before their demise.

It all starts with drama!

Nowadays, groups are usually a bunch of strangers slapped together for a major financial goal. The thing is, once their individual personalities begin to come to the forefront, not much can be done to remedy these differences, especially the creative ones.

Fifth Harmony’s internal disputes is a primary reason Camila Cabello excited and now their he said/she said drama is beginning to unfold in the public eye.

In her first statement since the announcement, Cabello insisted that the other band members knew of her intentions for the future.

“I was shocked to read the statement the Fifth Harmony account posted without my knowing,” Cabello writes on Twitter. “The girls were aware of my feelings through the long, much needed conversations about the future that we had during tour. Saying that they were just informed through my representatives that I was ‘leaving the group’ is simply not true. Just like the other girls said in their statement about their plans, I had also planned to continue with my own solo endeavors in the new year but I did not intend to end things with Fifth Harmony this way.

“As sad as it is to see this chapter ending this way, I will continue to root them all on as individuals and as a group, I wish nothing but the best for them, all the success in the world and true happiness.”

Excellent PR, right?

Time will tell what happens to Fifth Harmony from here on, and we wish them the best.
