Jhené Aiko’s decision to become a vegan is being recognized by one of the largest animal rights organization.
PETA selected the R&B singer as their 2016 Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity, and to promote the honor, Aiko posed naked for PETA’s “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaign, alongside the tagline ”Drop the fur.”
“As human beings, we have the power to speak up for animals,” states Jhené. “They don’t speak our language, so I feel like it’s up to us to help them and give them a voice. Animals have feelings, they have souls, they have emotions, and they way that they are killed for furs; very inhumane.”
Jhené also opened up about why she decided to become vegan for good. “I got really sick, and I went to the emergency room, and they told me that I was eating lots of things that I shouldn’t have been eating,” she adds in the clip (below).
According to PETA:
For every fur coat, collar, and cuff, animals suffer immensely. Eighty-five percent of the fur industrys skins come from animals living captive in fur factory farms. These farms can hold thousands of animals, and their farming practices are remarkably uniform around the globe. As with other intensive-confinement animal farms, the methods used in fur factory farms are designed to maximize profits, always at the expense of the animals.

Jhené and PETA celebrated the campaign unveiling last night at an event in Los Angeles. Her boyfriend, rapper Big Sean, was in the building to support her.
