According to reports, R&B veteran Toni Braxton was hospitalized for several days due to complications from her ongoing battle with lupus, and now she’s ‘resting at home.’
“Toni is resting at home and she is fine. She was in an L.A. hospital for a few days being treated for her lupus,” her reps said in a statement to ABC News.
“She has been released and starts rehearsals for her upcoming tour this week. She was not in serious condition, though lupus is a serious disease and must be monitored at all times,” Braxton’s representatives added.
The hospitalization came just days before Braxton’s “Hits Tour,” which is scheduled to begin on Oct. 8 in Oakland, CA. The trek is expected to run until Nov. 12.
Along with family, the “Braxton Family Values” star’s rumored boyfriend, rap mogul Birdman, was by her side. He was reportedly touring with his artist Jaquees.
Last year, Braxton spoke about her issues with lupus during an interview with The Huffington Post.
“Some days I can’t balance it all,” she stated. “I just have to lay in bed. Pretty much when you have lupus you feel like you have the flu every day. But some days you get through it. But for me, if I’m not feeling well, I tend to tell my kids, ‘Oh mommy’s just going to relax in bed today. I kind of take it easy.'”
She also revealed how Lupus had impacted her performances. “That’s the toughest part, when I have to perform,” she adds. “So often, when it’s like that, it’s a lot of, ‘You sing!’ to the audience, you know. They kind of help me out a little bit without realizing it.”
Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease, causing inflammation to a person’s internal organs, joints, and skin. Lupus is not contagious and may be caused by a number of factors, including hormones, genetics and one’s environment, according to the Lupus Foundation of America. An exact cause for the disease is still unknown.
