Even with all the projects KeKe Palmer has on her plate, she’s still readying her Island Records debut. After the good reception from her single “I Don’t Belong To You,” the Jeremih-assisted “Enemiez“, “Yellow Lights” video, and multiple dance videos, she drops her video for “Reverse Psychology,” a song and video about flipping the script on her dude.
“What if I told you that I loved you so but these hoes, I can’t let go?/ Could you handle all the things that you told me?/ How about some reverse psychology?” she sings.
In the clip, she performs some smooth hip-hop choreo and flips how her relationship works, forcing her man to rethink some things. One of her “shadow kids” (originally in her “Enemiez” video) are also in the video; they represent her conscience.
Palmer tells Billboard about the underlying meaning of the song, “I think for me, especially with the continuation of my shadow kids, it’s all about awareness.” She adds, “I think, while staying true to myself and whatever my current disposition is, it’s important for me to display consciousness or the process of being aware of your thoughts as a young person. Whether it be abstract or actual or both.”
