John Legend is already an executive producer of the WGN America series “Underground,” but now he’s planning to dip his hands into another project steeped in African-American history.
The Grammy and Oscar winner is planning to produce a new series (through his Get Lifted production company) based on Black Wall Street, the thriving, affluent black community in Tulsa, Oklahoma that was said to rival Beverly Hills. The community was bombed by jealous, white citizens in 1921 that left around 300 black people dead.
TheWrap reports the series is still being developed along with Legend’s biz partners Mike Jackson, Ty Stiklorius and “Southside With You” star Tika Sumpter.
If this will be as good as “Underground,” it should be a hit!
