Nineteen-year-old, rising Baltimore-based singer/songwriter Sonne Riley shares a poignant message about depression and suicide in his video “Want Love,” which premieres on Singersroom today (Aug. 25).
The video sees Sonne has he tries to cope with the loss of his girlfriend who suffered from depression, and unfortunately, succeeds in committing suicide. The subject matter holds close to Sonne’s heart; he’s experienced depression and hardships at a young age, including homelessness and a mother who suffered from bipolar disorder and pill addiction.
“The brick walls are there for a reason,” Sonne says about life’s challenges. “The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.”
