Miguel is the latest celeb to publicly speak out against the disproportionately unjust incidents of police violence against black and brown communities.

On Friday (July 8), he released a song called “How Many,” a song recorded in his hotel room that’s still a work in progress.

“This version was started (written/recorded) here in London in my hotel room between the hours of 4am and around 7am when i passed out. ill update this song every week until its complete. Please feel free to share. #blacklivesmatter” he captioned with the song.

“I’m tired of human lives turned into hashtags and prayer hands,” he sings. “Brothers and sisters, it’s time … to wake up, wake up, wake up.”

That same day, at the Wireless Festival in London, the singer broke down in tears when he addressed the most recent police violence to go viral, those that happened in Louisiana and Minnesota involving victims Alton Sterling and Philando Castile respectively.

In an passionate, from-the-heart speech, Miguel wiped away tears as addressed the audience.

“We can’t let s**t just blow over and not take action anymore,” Miguel said. “Look, our children will inherit this Earth when we’re gone. What are we leaving for them? What are we doing for them now, not tomorrow? Now!”

Since those two shootings, five white police officers were gunned down on  July 7th in Dallas during a Black Lives Matter protest.

He continued, “We cannot rest anymore. We have to do something. We have to say something. I’m sorry if I’m preaching to you. But it’s true.”
