Covering the current issue of Seventeen Magazine, Beyonce says “I don’t try to compete with other people.” “I feel like I’m my competition.” Maybe Beyonce is right. As the title of the highly anticipated album “I Am… Sasha Fierce” suggests Sasha is the competition and by the looks of it she is winning — at least in the club that is … With the simultaneous release of her lead singles fans can see that there is a clearly drawn line between the infectious dance hit “Single Ladies,” which many call “Get Me Bodied” on steroids, and the more anthem tinged but heavily downloaded single “If I Were a Boy.” If history serves correctly though, Sasha seems to be the one who tops the charts, rocks the stage and fills the dance floor on “Crazy In Love,” “Freakum Dress,” “Check On It,” and the aforementioned “Get Me Bodied.” Beyonce on the otherhand is also a winner on “Listen,” “Dangerously In Love” and “Flaws & All” but does she pack enough punch ? With “I Am…Sasha Fierce” due in stores Tuesday, it looks like we have a front row seat to Beyonce’s inner battle. Will Beyonce top Sasha or will this be another “B’Day,” a multi-platinum selling disc that offered a similar approach ? Besides talking about her inner battle, Beyonce admits there is competition out there. Even though she does not mention names we can easily assume she means Rihanna, Ciara, and Britney…so what is Beyonce’s answer to the age old question about competition: “I just try to better myself. I go and watch everything I’ve done.” “I have my YouTube days, when I watch every performance, and I listen to my music, and I watch my videos to figure out what I need to do, what I need to fix, and how to become a better singer.” Beyonce’s new album “I Am… Sasha Fierce” hits stores and online retailers Tues. Nov. 18.
