Not only does Beyonce slay music, but she’s quite the fashion icon.
Last night (June 6), she took time out form her “Formation World Tour” to accept the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Fashion Icon Award.
A gracious and poised Beyonce took the stage to accept the award with a powerful message: she elaborated on her fashion roots with her grandmother Agnez Dereon being a seamstress out of necessity, and how the talent was passed down to her mother who created Destiny’s Child’s first outfits. Beyonce also urged for more diversity in the fashion industry.
“When we were starting out in Destiny’s Child, high-end labels, they didn’t really want to dress four black, country, curvy girls. And we couldn’t afford designer dresses and couture. My mother was rejected from every showroom in New York. But like my grandmother, she used her talent and creativity to give her children their dreams,” she said.
JayZ and Blue Ivy looked on proudly from the audience.
Inspiring!
