Music Soulchild is back…
In 2013, Musiq Soulchild collbed with Syleena Johnson on 9INE, then released a rap project in 2014 via his alter ego, The Husel. Folwing the rap stint, it seemed like Musiq had abandoned his fan base, but now the singer is back to living up to the “soul” in his stage name with the release of his first solo album in five years on April 15th called Life On Earth, executive produced by Warryn Campbell and headed by the single “I Do.”
He answered a few questions for Singersroom about the project. Check them out and stream snippets of Life On Earth via Spotify below.
What was the inspiration behind the song “I Do”?
The song talks about a point in a relationship where you love someone but may be at odds with them. You let it be known and it’s always something wrong. That expectation that you have may blind you from the fact that I still love you or care.
What are some other singles on the album that you liked working on?
All of them, those are the reasons why I picked those songs to be on the album.
What was it like working with Warren Campbell?
He’s a genius. I’m honored to work with someone of that level and creativity.
What made you transition into something different such as “The Husel”?
That’s just other stuff that I’m doing, but I’m doing this album to let y’all know I’m still Musiq Soulchild.
What other projects are you currently working on?
Right now I’m just focusing my attention on the Musiq SoulChild project.
Is there any one song from any of your albums that you can listen to all the time?
Nah not really. At different times I like certain songs for different reasons.
Is there anyone you would like to work with again or work with someone you haven’t worked with?
It’s a lot of people I haven’t worked with that I would love to work with one day.
Any upcoming tours?
We’re working on it but as soon as I know I will post the information.
