Along with many other celebs (like Diddy, The Game, Big Sean, Eminem, Wiz Khalifa, etc.), Aretha Franklin is lending a helping hand to the residents of Flint, Michigan.
Franklin, who grew up in nearby Detroit, is donating food and overnight hotel stays for 25-50 people in Flint, Michigan. According to WDIV, Franklin’s father’s church, New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit, will soon screen people to determine who the food and hotel packages will go to.
The residents are enduring a water crisis after their water supply was contaminated with lead after Michigan’s governor, Rick Snyder, switched their water supply from Detroit’s Water system to the Flint River to “save money.”
Along with helping her fellow Michiganians, Franklin is planning on starting a healthy competition with fellow soul singer Patti LaBelle in the soul food arena…Aretha is coming for Patti and her pies!
Aretha spoke to Evrod Cassimy, morning anchor of Local 4 News Today in Detroit, and she dished on an upcoming line of food to hit the shelves, which includes chili, gumbo, and baked chicken.
Yum!
“Ms. Patti’s gon’ have to move that pie to the side!” she told Cassimy. She’s already forged a partnership with a food group out of Phoenix to formulate her recipes for mass marketing.
