Chris Brown is slated to hit Australia for his “One Hell Of A Nite Tour” with August Alsina, but the land down under is trying hard to block that from happening.
The country is currently enforcing a no-tolerance policy on domestic violence, and they are looking to stop Brown from stepping foot on their soil in December because of his domestic violence record for the assault charges in the 2009 Rihanna beating. Chris pleaded guilty to felony assault and was freed from probation this year.
According to the Associated Press, Australia’s assistant Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, Michaelia Cash, told the Cabinet that she recommends Immigration Minister Peter Dutton deny Brown a visa.
“People need to understand if you are going to commit domestic violence and then you want to travel around the world, there are going to be countries that say to you: ‘You cannot come in because you are not of the character we expect in Australia,'” Cash, who is now minister for women, told reporters. “This is a government that is not afraid to say: ‘no,'” she said.
The Australian government is in the middle of launching a $70 million U.S dollar initiative to prevent domestic violence. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull agreed with Cash, adding she “has very brilliantly expressed the thoughts of the government.”
Activists have been actively protesting Brown’s presence on the continent. Britain, Canada and New Zealand have also refused him visas.
