Looks like R. Kelly is dodging the sequel to his 2014 release, Black Panties, which was called White Panties. During a recent appearance on HLN's The Daily Share, the Pied Piper of R&B spoke with host Rocsi Diaz about his upcoming 14th studio album, now titled The Buffet, and he says "expect the unexpected."
"It's all you can hear," said Kelly on why he named the project Buffet. "I'm 27 years deep in the business, I've been blessed to do this music for so long and I've got a lot of great songs under my belt, and fans love it. But, I've got all different kinds of generations of fans now, and I have to feed everybody. You've got hip hop, you've got old school music with the 'Step In The Name of Love' type of music, 'Happy People' type of music, then you've got traditional R. Kelly; sensuous, sexual kind of music. It's just a variety of things, so I call it The Buffet."
Kelly also says the pending project is a win for R&B, insisting, "I'm gonna lead people right back to where there supposed to be."
Prior to visiting HLN, R. Kelly, who is currently trekking across the U.S. on the 2015 Funk Fest tour with artist like Erykah Badu, Mint Condition, SWV, Whodini and more, stopped by Atlanta's V-103. While on the show, the music veteran sung a little before discussing his social conscious new song, "Planet."
"This song is a reach out song," said Kelly. "It was inspired by Baltimore, but it's really not just about Baltimore, it's about the planet… You know I always got to break it down before I put out my album. I gotta see what's going on in the world, and I have to say something about it… It's not just about the sex songs, sometimes it's about issues, about what's going on."
It's not clear when Kelly will actually release the song to the public.
