Recent Grammy Award winner Lorde says the state of media "just sucks."
Following the high of Sunday's Grammy Awards, where she won Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year for “Royals," Lorde flew home to New Zealand where she was accosted by paparazzi and press trying to take pictures of her. According to Lorde, it got really bad and her family was nearly pushed over as she tried to exit Auckland's airport.
"NZ (New Zealand) media almost pushed over myself and my family at the airport this morning in order to get their shots. Bit of a sad welcome if I'm honest," the 17-year-old artist wrote on Twitter.
Though the tweets have since been deleted, she went on to say that there is a big difference between fans, who are showing appreciation for her music, and media.
"There is a difference between attn from fans, which I love, and the constant, often lecherous gaze that I'm subjected to in this industry," she tweeted. "I know that success comes with a price tag. it just sucks when you see that in your tiny home country where you previously felt safe."
Even though it has been upsetting to her, Lorde says she is getting used to the attention.
"The fact that I'm getting used to it frightens me," she said.
