Last May Usher surprised us all when he gave his mom/manager Jonetta Patton the âpink slip,â but according to Rush & Molloy the âLove In This Clubâ singer may be in talks to bring his mom back! After sales of his new album, âHere I Standâ fell over 650,000 copies short of itâs predecessor âConfessions,â the crooner has been left disappointed with the outcome and is quietly talking with Patton about becoming his manger again. Last year the singer replaced Patton with Benny Medina, the man who has spearheaded the careers of Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez and Tyra Banks among others. But now that Usher’s new album has been slow off the mark, he’s blaming Medina, according to sources. The recent success of Lil Wayneâs âThe Carter IIIâ has not helped the situation either, the Hip Hop artistâs record sold over 1 million copies in itâs first week out, pushing the âclimate of the record industryâ excuse out of the window â Medina reportedly reassured Usher that his latest sales were nothing to be ashamed of, considering the current state of the business. Usherâs headlining of the BET Awards drew lower numbers in comparison to Beyonceâs opening of the show last year which picked up 6.3 million viewers as compared with this years 5.8 million viewers. According to Rush & Malloy, “Usher was livid!,” claims an insider. “He threatened to fire everyone.” “People have been telling Usher to listen to his mother,” says a source. “Nobody knows how to sell him better than she does. Usher can be stubborn. But he may be ready.” But is mom ready and willing? Patton has moved on, launching her own label over the spring as previously reported on Singersroom and continues to front her management firm. Since the split Patton has been focusing on Usherâs brother J. Lack who produced the 2007 hit âGet It Shawtyâ (Lloyd), R&B group Kwiet Storm and R&B singer Dante who are all signed to her label Jpat Records. However, sources say if Usher cries for mom, sheâll be there for him………. What do you think, should Usherâs mom come to the rescue?
