Grammy Award winning R&B/Soul artist India Arie is poised to make her Broadway debut this August. According to an announcement from the Dreamteam Entertainment Group and executive producers including Whoppi Goldberg, Arie is slated to appear in the Broadway revival of âFor Color Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow is Enuf.â Slated for previews beginning August 19th, Arie joins the Shirley Jo Finney directed production of Ntozake Shange’s Tony Award-nominated work, a collection of stories and poems, featuring choreography by Tony Award-winner Hinton Battle. The 1974 Obie-winning and Tony Award-nominated âFor Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow is Enufâ played The Public Theater and jumped to Broadway in 1976, with playwright Shange featured as one of seven women who “reveal themselves, their lives, loves, hardships, and ultimately their discovery of strength and love.” According to Playbill, the revival has been updated to make it more relevant to womenâs issues today including a story about a woman faces HIV infection instead of the previous stories such as the Vietnam War. âFor Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow is Enufâ will officially open September 8th, with tickets going on sale to American Express Card members July 9th. Tickets for the general public will be made available beginning July 19th.
