Emeli Sande will be honored at Essence magazine's annual Black Women in Music event.
Set to take place January 22, as one of many events leading up to the Grammy Awards, the invitation only event will feature an exclusive performance by Sande' and special guests.
"Emeli Sandé's soaring confidence as a songwriter and fearless self-expression as a singer is in the tradition of many iconic female trailblazers such as Nina Simone," Essence editor-in-chief Vanessa K. Bush offered in a statement.
In addition to the success of her album "Our Version of Events," Sande has written for a number of artists including Alicia Keys. She has also worked with Nas, Labrinth, Fantasia and Rihanna.
In related news, Emeli Sande is busy at work on her sophomore album, a follow up to "Our Version of Events."
"It's just a baby at the moment. I'm not sure what it is yet. But it will be very spiritual," Sande says of the effort. "I want it to hit people's souls, to speak to them no matter where they are in the world."
Emeli Sande joins Kelly Rowland and Janelle Monae who have been honored in year's past.
