Mishon, the 15 year old actor known for his role as âTayâ on the hit ABC Family series âLincoln Heights,â is ready to take on music with his upcoming major label debut through Interscope. At a young age Mishon has earned quite a following since he made his debut on Lincoln Heights in January of 2007. Heights, a series about a street cop, whose family moves back to his old neighborhood of Lincoln Heights has also featured Stomp the Yardâs Darrin Dewitt Henson and Richard Roundtree. Mishon who plays âTayâ the spunky little brother says singing has always been his first love. Citing Michael Jackson, Usher, Jodeci and Boyz II Men as influences, Mishon is busy at work, prepping his major label debut via Interscope/Streamline and Dynasty Records where he released two previous albums. The young singer has already teamed up with todayâs hottest producers including Sean âThe Penâ Garrett, The Underdogs, Dre and Vidal, Carlos âL.O.S.â McKinney (J.Holiday), Vincent Herbert and others for the new album slated for release later this year. On his first single âExcuse Me Mama,â Mishon shares a tale of a guy trying to meet that special someone while hanging at the mall. âItâs a refreshing song, like something young and new,â enthuses the singer. âItâs about seeing a girl but you donât know what to say to her, so I gotta step up to her and express how I feel. I could definitely relate to the song.â Though the song has earned him comparisons to Chris Brown, Mishon says heâs flattered but heâs got his own style. âI really wasnât too devastated by it.â Mishonâs debut also features the sweet groove âThinking Bout Yaâ and the spare electronic bombast of âLifeguard,â both of which will have the dance floor pumping. And Mishon promises that like his performing idols, heâs got a few fly dance moves of his own saved for the stage. While Mishon is ready to kick-start his run at the charts and already shines on the small screen, he remains humble and reminds other teens to keep their priorities straight. âSomething I would like to tell teens is that if theyâre a musician–or whatever they may do– they should remember that their parents always support them, so they shouldnât be afraid to talk to their parents,â says Mishon, whose name is a mashup of the first names of parents Michael and Shontay. âI know that a lot of teens are kind of rebellious sometimes, but just keep your support behind you and keep God number one and follow your dreams, donât ever give up. Thatâs been my stronghold for the last five years.â Watch out for Mishonâs debut later this year.
