R&B singer Ashanti is busy promoting her new album âThe Declaration,â but today the singer and her label Universal Music/Motown are the subject of protest. A coalition led by the civil rights organization Project Islamic Hope and the Industry Ears organization are set to protest the singerâs video and parody website for âThe Way That I Love Youâ in Los Angeles calling the video a âglorification of violence as a tool to settle disputes.â “Ashanti should be ashamed of herself. Her participation in the glorification of violence in her music video sends a horrible message to thousands of impressionable youths worldwide who are accessing the unedited video that is being promoted by Universal Music/Motown on their website,” stated Najee Ali Founder of Project Islamic Hope According to Industry Ears co-founder Paul Hope, “Universal Music and Motown continue to promote black violence and stereotypes without corporate responsibility. Ashanti’s senseless promotion is evidence that commercial hip hop is dying fast. Hopefully Doug Morris at Universal will explain why his company is insensitive to urban violence.”
