It wouldn’t do PJ Morton any justice if I just talked about the show that he put on Friday (July 12) at Stage 48 and didn’t mention what exactly it meant to R&B or even music as a whole. This YMCMB New Orleans native and Maroon 5 member has something special and I experienced that yesterday with the lights glaring in my eyes at his stop in NYC for his "Back To New Orleans" tour.

Yes, he rocked out a New York City stage for adoring fans and they recited songs such as “I Need You”, “Work It Out”, “Heavy”, “Only You” and “Don’t Ever Leave” like he was Jay-Z. There was an energy that everyone could feel in the room as he started to go deeper into the music. PJ Morton poured out his soul on that stage and he seemed so filled with life that he fed it to his fans. No wonder music elite such as Emily King, Chaz Shepard, Chrisette Michele and Jazmine Sullivan came through to check out this great performer. His band was also a vital part of the musical experience because they were so in sync with him as he told stories through his music. His guitarist and percussionist, Josiah Martin, stood out because of his amazing energy.

Newly signed singer-songwriter and reality show star from The Sheards, J. Drew, also performed, serving as the opening act. Both of these artists gave the people an amazing show that speaks to what music is suppose to be … something live and energizing.

If you are a true lover of not only R&B, but music as a whole, make sure to catch up with PJ Morton and his band in a city near you. I guarantee you will be nothing but satisfied.
