When we are figuring out which songs to feature, there is usually a debate over each record. We see your comments on Twitter and Facebook. In order to bring you a step closer to our editors, we have decided to provide each person's favorite records for the week. This week Deyior Dunbar shares his favorites songs of the week.
Amel Larrieux – Afraid – Wherever my beau, Amel Larrieux, is where I have to be. She took a short break, but she didn't miss a beat. She still has the same depth in her lyrics, coolness in her vibe and beauty in her voice. Her new single "Afraid" is one of my picks because it mixes the vintage with the fresh. The record is similar to a dope classic outfit with spunky, new accessories. No one does it quite like Amel… there is something about her.
Yummy Bingham – Cuffin – I have always loved Yummy Bingham's voice. I am happy she is back with some fresh production. She takes one of my favorite songs, Ghost Town DJ's "My Boo", and makes it hers. This is a summer joint for the rooftops, BBQs and the drop-tops (preferable a foreign car). The beat is heavy, and her voice is sweet.
RaVaughn – Best Friend – RaVaughn has something unique. Who would have thought that someone had put this beautiful and talented young lady on the friend zone bench. Her passion and lyrics speak volumes. This song speaks to the masses and is all about the music. Keep your eye out for RaVaughn she might be next up.
SZA – S EP – This girl is just DOPE! SZA is like a cup of ice cream during a heat wave in late July. She is a refreshing talent that has the X factor. We can't put her in a box, that is what makes her music beautiful and edgy. ICE.MOON from the mixtape S is just a taste test for what SZA has in store for you. Check it out if you're not already riding the wave.
