The beautiful Janelle Monae graces the May 2013 cover of Essence Magazine. In her sit down with the mag, the 27 year old talks about being a woman and dressing accordingly.

"People don’t ask Jay-Z to take his shirt off when he rhymes,” Janelle told Essence about not shedding any garments as she tries to "redefine what it means to be sexy and what it means to be a woman. Showing my skin is not what makes me sexy,” she declares.

While many artists refute the title role model, Monae stands by her message, and she plans to keep on following through.

She adds: “I like skirts and dresses just like everyone else, but I had a message I needed to put out there. It was up to me to show people and young girls there was another way."

This is what makes this ARTIST so dope!

Janelle Monae is the latest star to grace Essence Magazine’s cover, and she has a lot to say. The singer-songwriter, actress, and producer recently opened up about her journey of self-discovery—particularly in terms of how she expresses herself through fashion and style. She discussed covering up, being sexy, and what it means for her to be “free as an artist.” It’s clear from this interview that Janelle isn’t afraid to push boundaries or challenge societal norms when it comes to expressing herself.

From going back and forth between wearing pantsuits and skirts for red carpet events to balancing her commitment to modesty with modern trends, Monae reveals the struggles behind finding her own personal style. In addition, she opens up about why feminism is important in today’s society and offers insight into understanding body shame among women.

It’s no secret that Janelle continues to break barriers within the entertainment industry; but now fans can get an inside look at how she lives out those same values in her everyday life. Read on for more details!

Janelle Monae’s Interview With Essence

Janelle Monae has been making waves in the music industry for over a decade. Her unique style and sound have made her an icon of modern R&B, soul, and pop. In this exclusive interview with Essence magazine, she talks about how she covers up her body to maintain her own sense of modesty while still being sexy.

Monae explains that when it comes to dressing herself, she’s always looking for something that will make her feel comfortable and confident. She believes in covering up as much as possible because she wants to be respected for more than just her physical appearance. “I’m here to stay,” says Monae. “And I think people should respect me for my artistry and not what I look like.”

The singer also opened up about how important it is for women – especially young girls – to know they can be strong and powerful without sacrificing their femininity or sexuality. Monae notes that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to self-expression; instead, everyone should find ways to express themselves authentically while respecting their own boundaries. With that said, she encourages women everywhere to embrace who they are and never let anyone tell them otherwise.

Her Views On Covering Up And Being Sexy

Monae believes that covering up one’s body is not just a way to maintain modesty, but also an expression of power. She points out that people should always be free to express themselves in whichever way they feel most comfortable, and no one should ever put pressure on someone else to dress differently than what makes them happiest.

At the same time, Monae recognizes the importance of being sexy – without sacrificing any sense of respect or dignity. To her, it’s all about finding balance between these two extremes while still honoring one’s own personal boundaries. ‘You can be sexy and powerful at the same time,’ she says. ‘It doesn’t have to be either/or.’

Ultimately, Monae hopes that her message will inspire women everywhere to take pride in their bodies and love who they are, regardless of how much skin is showing. With this attitude, she emphasizes the idea that everyone has something special to offer from within – and that beauty comes from more than just physical appearance.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Janelle Monae’s interview with Essence has shown that she is an advocate for covering up and being sexy. She believes in honoring the body without having to show it off all the time. To her, self-expression should be about more than just what you’re wearing or how much skin you are showing; it should also include your attitude and personality as well.

Monae stands firmly behind her beliefs of modesty and encourages other women to do the same. It is okay to dress modestly while still feeling beautiful and attractive. We can take inspiration from her words and use them to empower ourselves and others to express themselves however they please, whether that means wearing something revealing or opting for a more covered-up look.

Ultimately, Janelle Monae’s views on covering up and being sexy remind us that beauty comes from within. Regardless of our chosen style of clothing, we should feel comfortable in our own skin no matter what society dictates. With this in mind, let’s make sure we support each other’s decisions when it comes to fashion choices so everyone feels confident in their appearance.
