When most people heard there will be a movie about the late, great Marvin Gaye, the common consensus seemed to be happiness. But not everyone is looking forward to the project. Marvin Gaye III, the late star’s son, is upset about the upcoming film about his father, in which Lenny Kravitz will have the starring role.
According to TMZ, Marvin III is an old classmate and longtime friend of Kravitz, and wants him to back out of the role because the film will focus on the final years of Gaye’s life which harbored substance abuse and turmoil, ultimately tarnishing the legend’s legacy. “The producers and directors of this film are very wrong and shameful … [They’re] trying to do a film about a low period in his life. They don’t even know the whole story,” Marvin III told TMZ. “I would hope [Lenny] doesn’t have any idea that we are against this film being done.”
As previously reported, Gaye’s second wife Janis Gaye has also spoken out about her doubts about the movie, saying she feels “very skeptical” about the project.
Speak out…should the movie focus more on Gaye’s entire life and career rather than just the tumultuous times?
