Major record labels are building their artist rosters by scouring the internet for new talent, Youtube views, twitter followers and Facebook fans are determining factors in earning a recording contract. These considerations were not an issue for 19 year-old singer B Smyth, who amassed over four million Youtube plays and thirty thousand subscribers before signing a deal with Universal Motown.
Smyth built a loyal crew of fans by covering Michael Jackson (Human Nature), Frank Ocean (Thinking About You), Usher (Climax), Maxwell (Woman's Work), and Miguel (Sure Thing). With the backing of Motown, B Smyth is recording original songs for his debut album, he has already collaborated with 2 Chainz. The first single entitled "Leggo" can be heard HERE and a music video featuring rapper 2 Chainz will premiere on Monday, December 3rd, 2012.
Ne-Yo will be supervising Smyth's project after joining Motown Records management staff as senior VP of A&R to mentor artists and search for new talent.
