Drake, one of her biggest fans said, “RIP Baby Girl…in my ear at every show letting me know the next move I should make. Love you,” in reference to the literal earpiece he wears at every performance adorned with her image.

Longtime friend and collaborators Missy Elliot and Timbaland joined the chorus. Missy said, “Aaliyah til this very day u r still in Your own Lane! Ure music is Timeless! We miss u! #WeLoveuAaliyah!” Timbo kept his shout out simple and sweet: “#ripaaliyah miss you babygirl.”

Rapper DMX worked with Aaliyah on the film “Romeo Must Die” and the accompanying song “Back in One Piece.” In a sit-down session with the Boombox, he dished on memories onset of the video shoot. “My wife [Tashera Simmons] got mad because there was one scene I was sitting up on the bench and [Aaliyah] was sitting [below] between my legs. I had on a jean jacket, it was a little chilly, and [Aaliyah] just had on a T-shirt…I was rubbing her arms, warming her up… I just felt the eyeballs [from Tashera]. A wife can give you a stare that will burn the side of your head. It was like a magnifying glass with the sun on me [laughs]. But I wouldn’t change a thing,” he recalled.
