The MTV Video Music Awards are a highly anticipated event every year, but this year’s ceremony is sure to be especially exciting. This year the nominations have been announced and it looks like Rihanna, Drake, and Beyonce will lead the pack in terms of award wins–they each have multiple noms! From Best Pop Video to Video Of The Year, these three powerhouses have their sights set on taking home some hardware come September 6th. Let’s take a look at what they’ve got going on when it comes to VMA recognition this year.

Rihanna has no less than five nominations for her captivating music videos from 2012. She’s up for Best Female Video (“Where Have You Been”), Best Choreography (“Where Have You Been”) as well as nods for “We Found Love,” “Take Care” featuring Drake, and “Cockiness (Love It)” featuring A$AP Rocky. Her competition includes Katy Perry and Taylor Swift in both categories she’s nominated in.

Drake also has quite the impressive list of accolades he could potentially receive come showtime; He’s up for four awards including Best Male Video (“Take Care”), Best Hip-Hop video (“HYFR”), Most Innovative Video (“Take Care”) and Best Collaboration with Rihanna on “Take Care.” He’ll be facing off against Kanye West in all of his categories except Most Innovative where Wiz Khalifa competes alongside him.

With an incredible six nominations under her belt, Queen Bey is leading the charge among female artists vying for a win at this years VMAs. She faces stiff competition from Rihanna who has five nominations but Beyonce still remains one of the favorites across multiple genres such as pop, R&B/Soul, dance/electronica–and even Comedy! Some of her biggest contenders include Gotye & Kimbra for “Somebody That I Used To Know” and Miley Cyrus’ controversial “Party In The U.S.A.,” which earned two nods despite its questionable content.

Overview Of Nominations

The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards is quickly approaching, and the nominees have been announced. Rihanna, Drake, and Beyonce lead the pack with a total of seven nominations between them. This year’s ceremony promises to be an exciting one as fans eagerly await the announcement of the winners in each category.

Rihanna has been nominated for five awards this year including best female video, best pop video, most share-worthy video, best collaboration and best choreography. She also received two nods for her hit single ‘We Found Love’; it was nominated for both Best Female Video and Most Share-Worthy Video.

Drake scored four nominations at this year’s VMA’s including: Best Hip hop Video and Best Male Video for his song ‘Take Care’; he is also up for Best Collaboration along with Nicki Minaj on their track ‘Make Me Proud’, as well as Best Editing which is shared by Director X and himself. Finally, Beyonce earned three nominations; she is up for Best Choreography alongside Chris Grant (which they won last year), Best Collaboration with Jay Z on ‘Crazy In Love’ and finally she will compete against herself again in the same category that she won last year –Best Female Video– with her songs ‘Love On Top’ & ‘Countdown’.

With such stiff competition amongst these heavyweights of music industry it makes predicting who will take home the coveted Moonman trophy very difficult indeed! It looks like we’ll just have to wait until September 6th to find out who will be crowned king or queen at this years VMAs.

Notable Nominees

Other notable nominees include Justin Bieber, who is up for Best Male Video with his hit single “Boyfriend”; and hip-hop stars Wiz Khalifa and 2 Chainz, who were nominated in the Best Hip Hop Video category. Pop sensation Katy Perry also earned a nod for her song ‘Wide Awake’, which was given a nomination for Best Female Video. Bruno Mars earned two nominations for his track ‘Locked Out of Heaven’, one for Best Male video and another for most share-worthy video.

The competition doesn’t end there however as rock bands like Linkin Park, Green Day and Coldplay all deserve recognition at this year’s VMAs. Linkin Park scored nods in both the Best Rock Video & Most Share Worthy categories while Green Day are competing against them in the same latter category alongside their song “Oh Love”. Finally, Coldplay has been recognised with a nomination in the Best Editing category thanks to Director Mark Romanek’s work on their music video “Paradise.”

It’s clear that this year’s MTV VMA awards will be an exciting event with some huge names from across different genres vying it out to take home a Moonman trophy! Who will come out victorious? We’ll just have to tune into the ceremony on September 6th to find out!

Conclusion

The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards showcased a slew of big-name acts, and the nominees reflect that. Rihanna, Drake, and Beyoncé are some of the biggest names in music today and their nominations for this year’s VMAs proves it. With so much talent on display during the awards show, viewers can expect an incredible night full of musical performances from these stars as well as many others.
