Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin has been tapped to provide the musical entertainment for this weekend’s dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on the National Mall. The dedication was previously postponed from late August due to Hurricane Irene.

President Barack Obama will deliver the keynote address and journalist Roland Martin will host. In addition, civil rights leaders Julian Bond, Rep. John Lewis, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, members of the King family and journalist Dan Rather are scheduled to speak.

The MLK statue, standing 30-foot, is the first dedicated to a black leader on the National Mall.

As previously reported by Singersroom, Soul veteran Stevie Wonder has committed $10,000 annually, which will allow blind visitors the chance to touch Dr. King’s face and torso.

Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, is set to headline an upcoming Memorial Ceremony honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Washington D.C. Former President Barack Obama will speak at the ceremony as well, making it a truly unforgettable event. This celebration of Dr. King’s legacy brings together two awe-inspiring figures who have been transformative forces in their respective fields: music and politics. It promises to be an uplifting and powerful tribute to one of America’s most beloved civil rights leaders.

The concert on August 28th commemorates 50 years since Dr. King gave his iconic “I Have A Dream” speech during the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, which was attended by over 250,000 people from around the country demanding equal rights for all citizens regardless of race or color. Aretha Franklin has long been a symbol of both Black power and unity with her soulful melodies that bring hope in times of despair for many generations across decades. To hear her perform now at this historic event is sure to evoke strong emotions amongst those attending and watching from afar alike.

Former President Barack Obama is also scheduled to pay homage to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., delivering what no doubt will be an inspiring address about how far we’ve come since the Civil Rights era yet how much farther we still need to go towards achieving true equality for everyone living in our nation today – something that would have undoubtedly made Dr. King proud if he were alive today to witness it himself!

Event Details

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Ceremony is set to be an incredible event, with special performances by the legendary Aretha Franklin and President Barack Obama as a featured speaker. This important memorial ceremony will take place on August 28th in Washington D.C., commemorating Dr. King’s legacy of service and justice for all.

This event promises to be both inspiring and thought-provoking, as attendees reflect upon the civil rights leader’s fight for social change during his lifetime—and how his work continues to shape our world today. Notable guests include members of Dr. King’s family, along with other public figures and community leaders who are passionate about carrying out his mission.

It has been over 50 years since Dr. King gave his iconic “I Have A Dream” speech at the historic March On Washington rally in 1963—a momentous occasion that made history and changed lives around the globe forever. The upcoming celebration of this monumental figure seeks to honor him through music, words, and action; reminding us why he remains such an influential part of American culture today.

Participants

This powerful tribute will be brought to life by a number of distinguished guests, including Aretha Franklin and President Obama. The “Queen of Soul” is set to bring her remarkable talent to the stage in honor of Dr. King’s legacy—a fitting way to celebrate his impact on our lives. Meanwhile, President Obama will share words that reflect upon the civil rights leader’s enduring contributions and commitment to justice and equality for all.

The ceremony also includes representatives from Dr. King’s family, as well as many other public figures and community leaders who have dedicated their efforts to carrying out his mission. These special participants come from various backgrounds and walks of life; each lending their own unique perspective in remembrance of this timeless figure.

It promises to be an inspiring event with performances from some of today’s most celebrated talents, touching speeches from prominent voices within our society, and reflections on how one man can make such a lasting impact throughout history—even decades after his death. This memorial celebration is sure to remind us why we continue honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., now more than ever before.

Conclusion

The upcoming memorial ceremony honoring Martin Luther King Jr. is set to be an unforgettable event. With Aretha Franklin headlining and President Obama speaking, this celebration of Dr. King’s legacy will be a powerful tribute to his life and work for civil rights.

I’m looking forward to the ceremony as it promises to be both inspirational and heartwarming. It’s incredible that someone like Aretha Franklin can bring together two generations in honor of such a monumental figure in American history. I’m sure she’ll deliver a performance unlike any other on that day. And having our current president speak at the event shows how far we’ve come since MLK Jr.’s time, when he wasn’t even granted the right to vote because of racism and discrimination.

It’s clear this ceremony will leave us with a lasting impression of what happens when people come together for a common cause – equality and justice for all Americans regardless of race or creed. The fact that these individuals are being brought together under one roof speaks volumes about progress made over the years thanks to courageous leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., who fought so hard against injustice throughout his lifetime.
