After finally finding a label home, R&B singer CJ Hilton is preparing for the release of his debut album ‘Cold Summer’ with the release of the first single “So Fresh.” The Grammy nominated songwriter/producer is holding double duty, promoting the forthcoming set as well as working in the studio with friend Mario and recording songs with Salaam Remi for Usher’s upcoming project.
Hilton’s lead single, “So Fresh,” with Nas delivers a nostalgic hip-hop touch over a piano led track capturing a youthful energy. The Baltimore native plans to fill the gap of “young soulful” artists, saying soul is “pain and emotion in voice and in the music.” Preparing to be the ringleader of a brigade of young soulful artist like John Legend and Musiq Soulchild, Hilton strays away from being put into the R&B category.
In his new musical home at RCA, he plans on fulfilling his career goals after several failed record label deals. For Hilton, his goal is to release “good music” because he hold it dear to himself. “Music is what I always wanted to do, there was nothing else I dreamed,” he adds.
