Cee-Lo Green is the latest celebrity to come under scrutiny from the Gay community after a comment he made on Twitter last week.
Following a recent show in Minneapolis on Rihanna’s Loud tour, critic Andrea Svensson wrote a bad review of Green’s set, which lead hit to take to his Twitter page to hit back at the journalist. He wrote, “I respect your criticism, but be fair! People enjoyed last night! I’m guessing you’re gay? And my masculinity offended you? Well f*** u!”
The entertainer was accused of being homophobia over the remark, prompting him to defend the comments, insisting he was in an “outrageous” mood when he the update, and that he has no negative feelings towards the gay community.
Following the extreme backlash, Cee-Lo Apologized to those whom he may of offended but adds: “What was homophobic about that? I said I was guessing he [was] gay which is fine but its nice to [know] what u think of me.”
The “Forget You” hitmaker later expanding his explanation telling WENN, “At the time I didn’t even know what gender the person was. I was being a little outspoken that night, a little outrageous. I always expect people to assume that everything I do is part of my character and sense of humor. I assumed that whoever it was would assume it was all in good fun.”
He continues: “It wasn’t taken so well, apparently. (I shouldn’t) have to apologize for speaking my mind or defending my performance. I most certainly am not harboring any sort of negative feeling toward the gay community. I’m one of the most liberal artists that I think you will ever meet, and I pride myself on that. Two of the remaining members that I have on my team on (U.S. talent show) The Voice are proud and outspokenly gay.”
