Grammy award-winning soul artist, Erykah Badu, joins Eric Roberson, Roy Ayers, Too Short, Bun B, 8 Ball and MJG as they pay homage to one of rap music’s most prolific artists. They are all tapped to perform at the 40th birthday celebration for the late Tupac Shakur. Hosted by the mother of the slain rapper, Afeni Shakur, and Mike Epps, the event will take place at the Atlanta Symphony Hall on June 16th. Jasmine Guy, actress and long time friend will present a special video tribute and DJ Drama will DJ the event. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation for the Arts.
Since its inception in 2009, the semi-birthday extravaganza has highlighted the music, culture, life and legacy of Tupac through guest appearances and performances from artists such as Rick Ross, Bun B, Wacka Flocka, Lil Scrappy, M1 of Dead Prez and more.
During the benefit concert in 2010, Dekalb County officials presented Afeni Shakur and Mike Epps with a proclamation, naming June 16th as “Tupac Day” in Dekalb County, Ga., home of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation for the Arts.
Honored to be involved in the charity event, Erykah Badu states, “I am greatly honored to have been invited by Afeni Shakur to celebrate her son’s 40th birthday. I do not take this honor for granted.”
“I’m looking forward to another year of preserving Tupac’s legacy by celebrating his life with his fans and furthering his causes by supporting his organization,” adds host Mike Epps.
Badu is not the only one looking forward to the event as fans nationwide are sure to convene in Atlanta next month to honor the West Coast legend.
