Last night (May 4), Singersroom held its third Acoustic Conversation series at the posh furniture store, BoConcepts, in New York City. The magical night was all about Grammy Nominated R&B singer Kelly price and her sixth solo studio album âKelly,’ which is now in stores.
In her acoustic set, Price kicked things off with a riveting performance of “As We Lay,” took the audience to church with a lovely gospel/R&B cut, brought up fans from the crowd for a momental performance of “Friend of Mine” and soothed the soul of all onlookers with new single “Not My Daddy.”
Kelly then proceeded to close her set by letting her fans know how much love she has for them.
“I think that I’ve tried to show it, I hope that you sense it, I hope that you feel itâ¦I would prefer that you look at me as an extension of family,” Price tells the audience. “I’m like the girl next door, I’m like your cousin, I’m like the girl at church that leads songs in the choir.”
She continues, “Fans go away, they go to the next hyped up thing, they go wherever the fanaticism takes them. Family sticks with you in the good times, in the bad times, when the industry says you’re hot, when the industry says you’re not; there still listening to that first record and waiting on the sixth one and I feel blessed.”
Following Kelly’s lovely speech to her extended family (fans), Singersroom surprised her with a Thank You tribute performance from American Idol top 10 finalists Anwar Robinson and then presented her with a live painting of herself by James Shields.
With magic in the air, fans tearing and a room just engulfed with love for the wonderful Mrs. Price, she became emotional, breaking down in front of the people who love and appreciate her.
“I’m so messed up right now,” says an emotional Price. “I really really thank God for you. So many singers right now want an opportunity and can’t find one. It’s the most amazing thing in the world to me and it really hit me like a ton of bricksâ¦It’s been eight years since I’ve released a mainstream albumâ¦I’m grateful that there were people waiting for me; you were waiting for me and I appreciate it so much. So from the bottom of my heart, I just want to say thank you so much.”
