64-year-old singer Loleatta Holloway has died after slipping into a coma late Monday evening (Mar. 21). According to the Associated Press, Halloway died of heart failure at a suburban Chicago hospital. She was a legendary disco and gospel singer, known for the 1980 hit “Love Sensation.”

Born in Chicago on November 5, 1946, Holloway produced nine studio albums from 1973 thru 2005. Her songs graced the US Billboard, US Dance, US R&B and UK billboards, with acclaimed hit ‘Love Sensation’ (1980) owning the #1 spot on US Dance, ‘Hit and Run’ (1977) reaching #3 on US Dance, ‘Crash Goes Love’ (1984) rising to #5 on US Dance, ‘Gotta Be’ capturing #1 and #2 spots on US Dance, ‘Ride on Time’ (1989) earning the #1 rank on UK, and ‘Cry to Me’ ascending to #10 on US R&B.

Her vocals were sampled by Black Box for the 1989 hit “Ride on Time” and by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch for the song “Good Vibrations” in 1991.

Funeral arrangements are pending, but her family plans to hold a public memorial.
