R&B singer Marioâs mugshot is one fans never thought they would see. What is more shocking is why the artist was arrested â attacking his mother. Early October, the singer was arrested in his Baltimore apartment for allegedly assaulting his mother, Ms. Hardaway. The police statement of probable cause stated, Mario was ” âthrowing and damaging propertyâ in the apartment they share, and had pushed her using his hands and forearms, causing minor pain. When police went up to the apartment, they found a damaged china cabinet and the floor littered with broken glass. A mirror was broken, and there was a large hole in a closet door.â Hardaway , who has battled heroin addiction, made a statement claiming this was not the first time her son had assaulted her. Just days earlier she explained that during an altercation he pushed her several feet into a living room wall causing her to bump her head. The singer was arrested and charged with second degree assault and released on $50,000 bond. Charges were later dropped after, Hardaway asked the judge to dismiss the case against her son. âI care about my motherâs health more than anything and her getting back on her feet,â Mario tells Vibe. âIt really doesnât matter what happened to me. And she’ll tell you herself that I’ve always been there for her and will continue to be there for her.â Fresh face Bruno Mars surprised everyone when the jarring accusations of a possible cocaine bust broke headlines back in September. Since then, it has been confirmed that Las Vegas police arrested Mars in a Hard Rock Hotel bathroom and confiscated 2.6 grams of cocaine from the singer. The âJust the Way You Areâ artist seemed remorseful when telling the security guard who discovered him that he,”did a foolish thing and has never used drugs before.â Of all the arrests of 2010, Atlanta rapper T.I. has the most newsworthy tale. The hip-hop icon was recently released this year after serving a 10 month sentence on a federal weapons charge. CBS News reported that after the rapperâs most recent arrest in Los Angeles on suspicion of drug possession with wife Tiny, that T.I. begged the judge not to send him back to prison. The rapper pleaded mercy saying he had âscrewed upâ but it was to no avail as the judge sentenced him to 11 months. RadarOnline.com cites that Tiny however, pled not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance. NEXT: Catfights and Comebacks
We’ve all heard of the scandals that rocked the music industry in 2010. From arrests to mugshots and drug busts, it was a wild ride for some of our favorite R&B artists. But what were the most outrageous stories? Which stars ran into legal trouble? And how did these events affect their careers? Here’s a closer look at the top R&B scandals of 2010 – from Part 3: Arrests, Mugshots, and Drug Busts!
The third part of this series brings us back to some memorable arrests made by police officers. In April 2010, Bobby Brown was charged with possession of narcotics after being stopped by police when his car drifted over a double yellow line on an LA highway. Although he wasn’t convicted due to lack of evidence, this incident resulted in public outrage which tarnished his reputation as an artist. Later that year, Akon was arrested in Jamaica after performing in concert without permission from local authorities. He pleaded guilty but avoided jail time thanks to a successful plea bargain.
Finally we have Chris Brown who had one of the most notorious run-ins with law enforcement during this period. After getting into a physical altercation with then-girlfriend Rihanna in February 2009, he plead guilty and received five years probation along with community service requirements and court mandated domestic violence classes. This event not only affected him personally, but caused significant damage to his career as well; however many fans still stand behind him today showing their support despite his past mistakes.
Celebrity Arrests
The 2010s were full of scandal and controversy for the R&B world. From arrests to mugshots and drug busts, it was a wild ride for many celebrities in this genre. In this third part of our series on the top scandals of 2010, we’ll dive into some of the most notorious celebrity arrests that took place that year.
One person who had an especially rough time with law enforcement was singer Chris Brown. After pleading guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna back in 2009, he faced further legal troubles in 2010 when he was arrested twice within two months—first for allegedly breaking a man’s nose at a Washington D.C. hotel, followed by violating his probation after failing to complete court-ordered community service hours. Both incidents resulted in jail time and more probation restrictions.
Rapper DMX also experienced several run-ins with police during 2010 as well; one arrest came from owing $400k in child support payments while another incident saw him charged with possession of marijuana and stolen property after being pulled over for driving without headlights on. The last straw came when X violated his parole once again by testing positive for drugs, which led to him spending six months behind bars shortly thereafter.
It seemed like every day there was another story about a famous face getting busted or thrown behind bars due to various offenses, proving how precarious life could be even if you were rich and famous. Whether they got caught up in domestic disputes or substance abuse issues, these stars paid dearly for their mistakes that year—and beyond!
Drug Possession Charges
It wasn’t just arrests that some of the top R&B stars of 2010 had to worry about; there were plenty of drug-related charges brought up against them as well. Unfortunately, many artists found themselves facing hefty fines and jail time due to their involvement with drugs.
Rapper Lil Wayne was one of the most famous names on this list—in October of that year he pled guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree after police found him carrying an illegal firearm at New York’s JFK airport earlier in 2008. The plea deal included eight months in prison for Wayne, who served his sentence over several stints throughout 2010 and 2011.
Plenty more singers and rappers also ran into trouble due to drug charges during this time period, including T.I., Trey Songz, Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em, and Wiz Khalifa among others. Whether it was marijuana or harder substances like cocaine they were caught with, these celebrities paid the price by being booked (and sometimes even serving jail sentences) for their offenses.
Conclusion
In conclusion, 2010 saw many of our favorite R&B stars getting in trouble with the law. From celebrity arrests to drug busts, a few big names made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Rapper T.I., singer Chris Brown, and former Destiny’s Child member Farrah Franklin were among those who found themselves behind bars that year. Possession charges weren’t far behind either as artists like Trey Songz and Keyshia Cole had several run-ins with authorities. All these incidents involving R&B stars highlighted a major issue in the music industry; namely substance abuse and illegal activities.
The bright side is that some of these celebrities have since gone on to turn their lives around and are now back making great music. It goes to show us that no matter how dark things may seem, there’s always hope for redemption and second chances.
